Of pizza and the national debt...

From my HSA blog:
Last night my husband and I decided to forgo our pre-planned activities and spend the evening together. We got a pizza and some Dr. Pepper. I had two pieces of pizza and at least two glasses of Dr. Pepper. He had the rest of the pizza and a little wine. He got very sleepy... I got very hyper. As we were laying in bed, him trying to go to sleep, I just keep blabbering. Then he says:

Him: Oh, I'm so full! I ate too much.
Me: I KNOW. You always do... but I don't think you'll get fat - even thought you DID skip Jiu-Jitsu - but I still don't think you'll get fat, at least not for a long time... like millions and billions and trillions of... seconds!
(PAUSE - he jusy lays there with his eyes closed)
Me: Well, there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour - thus 3600 seconds in an hour - and 24 hours in a day. That's probably about 500,000* seconds in a day. That means there are about a million seconds in two days, there are about 182 2-days in a year, which means there are 182 million seconds in a year! So, in ten years there'd be at least a trillion seconds!**
(PAUSE - he jusy lays there with his eyes closed)
So, if you don't get fat for a trillion seconds, you won't get fat for 10 years. That's a long time. That's funny, because a second is such a SHORT length of time. But I guess a trillion is a big number.
(PAUSE - he jusy lays there with his eyes closed)
The national debt is measured in trillions.

Do you KNOW what the national debt is???***

At this he cracks up, and laughter being the contagion that it is, I was soon giggling too.

* It turns out that it's 86,400 I think I must've meant 50,000... don't do math when you're hyper. At least, don't do important math.

**Again, it would be closer to two trillion if my previous estimates had been accurate. The actual conversion factor is 31,675 years/trillion seconds.

***As America is not his native country and English is not his native language, I often check to make sure he understands anything that I think might be an unfamiliar word, phrase, or concept - though sometimes I get carried away and ask about things that have little to do with either English or America. It would probably be insulting if he didn't find it so funny.
