Sentences: Short & Sweet (...or, Short & Scary)

Haha! I just ran across this the other day. It was an assignment from my first on-campus college course. Basically, the task was to take a very simple sentence, and use descriptions to expand it:

Jennifer Giles
English 101
9-10-98


"Near the house stood a tree."

An ancient and twisted cypress tree, draped in Spanish moss, grew only a few yards from the deserted mansion.


"The sun went down."

The sun lingered, projecting its crimson glare onto the surface of the barren planet, then sluggishly departed to a hidden crevice in the sky.
