Imagine a robotic insect, that can be programmed to attack a specific plant species. It can take a "bite" or of a prospective plant, do a DNA analysis, and determine if it is the target plant. If so, fangs sink in, delivering a dose of poison to the vascular system of the plant. The ensures both that only the target pant is affected, and that the entire connected root system of the plant is targeted.
Imagine further, a swarm of such insects could simply canvass and area, "sampling" all the plants, and creating a species map so that the landowner can make detailed decisions about which plants to target.
