In the continuing retreat from Facebook, I bring you this:
IN YOUR SENIOR YEAR DID YOU...
1. Did you date someone from your school?
No. My first date was in my freshman yr of college... and even then it was really an accident (He really just told me we were going out rather than asking me, and because I didn't know what to say I said nothing. Then, because I hadn't declined, I felt I'd accepted, and since I didn't want to feel guilty for standing him up, I went. And I was really freaked out about the whole thing. Oh, and he was like 24 and I was 17.)
2. Did you marry someone from your high school?
No.
3. Did you car pool to school?
Yes - with my older bro.
4. What kind of car did you have?
I just drove my family's car. Though technically I had an old bug, but it was manual so I wouldn't drive it.
5. What kind of car do you have now?
Nissan Sentra (automatic tranny)
6. It's Saturday night...where are you now?
Hanging out with Adrian - maybe at either of our parents, the dollar theatre, or just at home. Well, actually we go to restaurants pretty often too. If I'm lucky I might even be doing karaoke ;)
7. It is Saturday night...where were you then?
Probably studying, or playing a computer game, or rocking out in my room to Margaret Becker on my computer's CD player.
8. What kind of job did you have in high school?
Babysitting.
9. What kind of job do you do now?
Phone tech support.
10. Were you a party animal?
Um... no.
11. Were you considered a flirt?
Sort of a moot question, I don't think I was even considered.
12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
No. Some voice lessons in early high school.
13. Were you a nerd?
Heck yeah! (Can we say "Princess Leia" three Halloween's in a row?)
14. Did you get suspended or expelled?
I was probably the most compliant person in my entire co-op, so, no.
15. Can you sing the fight song?
We didn't have one.
16. Who was/were your favorite teacher(s)?
I liked almost all of them, but I always said Mrs. Cleveland was my favorite (Spanish)
17. Where did you sit during lunch?
By myself if there was an empty table.
18. What was your school's full name?
My HS diploma says I graduated from MIT. Since I was homeschooled, we could call the school whatever we wanted, and my parent's let me choose. It stood for "Mom's Idea of Teaching." Oh, and I was also Valedictorian... because I was ranked #1... in a class of...1. Though, because I was an NMS, the co-op kinda let me be the Valedictorian, and so at graduation I got to sing (instead of giving a speech), and I sang Margaret Becker's "Say the Name." It was really cool, b/c in junior high I think I sang a bit for monthly co-op chapel services, but by HS nobody remembered that except the staff. And, since I was really quiet, and a loner, with a soft speaking voice, it totally floored everybody. A couple of my teachers asked me if I was lip-syncing. By comparison, I didn't even attent my own college commencement exercises (neither did Adrian - they were actually on a Friday, and he already had a job at that point, so he decided not to skip work).
19. When did you graduate?
1999
20. mascot?
Um... me?
21. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Actually, I think about that all the time. If I would've arranged my classes differently, I could've graduated even more years earlier, with more college credit already completed. Oh, and I definitely think I should have taken part in the Arcosanti summer program (well, I'd have to get them to make an exception for me not being 18), as well as some kind of Earthship construction training program. And I should've sung more. Maybe been in a band.
22. Did you have fun at Prom?
Yeah. I went to the homeschool prom with my brother (Which is probably acceptable at a homeschool prom, because everybody probably just assumed that my parents wouldn't allow me to go unchaperoned - actually, I was avoiding being asked out by the only person who I thought might ask me out. And trying to be nice to my brother, since they didn't have a homeschool prom when he graduated.) I really liked my dress/hair, etc.
23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with?
Of course.
24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion?
Well, I don't know if the co-op will ever have a reunion. Even if they do, since I'm out of state, it'd be alot of time and expense. Furthermore, my husband would probably not be interested.
25. Do you still talk to people from school?
I've mostly lost touch. I wasn't really close to anybody at the co-op anyway.
26. School Colors?
Nope.

do you ever wish you had gone to public school??? Maybe wish is the wrong word...do you ever think about how you would be different if you had??
just a few question :)

I used to want to try it back in jr. high - mainly just to be with my neighborhood friends. Now, however, I'm very happy to have been homeschooled. I think my nerdiness/reclusiveness was more due to my own personality, and other circumstances in my life, and probably would have been even more painful if I had been public schooled.

interesting...it's just opposite for me....i know that public school has introduced me to people i would have never met in my normal life and they have helped me become more outgoing and confident...i couldn't imagine having to stay home and have my mom teach me....i just don't think i could do it LOL

Well, I had opportunities to be more social at my co-op, and other places, and I didn't take advantage of them. So, I doubt I would've taken advantage of them just because they happened to come from a public school. I might have been forced to take advantage of them , and you could make the argument that that would have been for my own good - but ... Read Moreanything forced is not pleasant, and furthermore it gets rid of the wonder of free will.
Anyway, unless you have an extremely unhappy situation, I think it's always a bit hard to imagine your life having been very different.
*shrug*
To Rachel: Let's do it!
