The Age of the Essay
OK - so Rodney gave me a link to this article and told me I should post it. I rather agreed with him at the time (which was about 4 months ago), but never got around to it until now. Anyway, if you ever had an English assignment you couldn't stand, this article is for you. Though the article makes a number of good points, I think I would still have to declare myself in favor of a classical education, which (surprise!) usually centers around 'the classics.' Not that I could really claim to have had a classical education - but I still think I got something better than what is given out in public schools.

WOW! I've been reading a number of Paul Graham essays lately, not realizing that it was the same author that I had been (briefly) exposed to before. I came across this one, and the title range a bell in my head, and I thought I wonder if this essay is anything like that essay that Rodney sent me a long time ago? I started reading it and it seemed exactly like what I had remembered reading before. So, I went back searching for this blogpost and... sure enough! One and the same :)
